"Going Home" by Ralph Hedley

This painting of two miners walking home from Blaydon Main pit was painted in 1888 and is now in the Laing Art Gallery, having been donated in 1985 by Miss Ellen Bicknell.  The older man has been identified as John Hepple and the younger one is George Blyth. (Interesting note: Hepple's grandson is supposed to have married Blyth's sister about twelve years later.)
